Agile values in focus
"We've always done it that way!" A statement that is uttered and lived in many companies. However, very few companies can afford it today. Increasing competitive pressure due to dynamic market conditions and changing customer needs lead to the need for companies to adapt their mindsets and leadership methods in order to react faster to environmental conditions.
One answer to these challenges is agile leadership, which shifts the focus away from rigid, purely process-oriented ways of thinking to individuals and their needs, and away from simply following a plan to responding to market changes. Characteristic and crucial to the successful implementation of this type of management are agile values.
Agile values are expressed in an open communication culture, autonomous action, sustainable corporate strategies, and company-wide transparency, characterized by commitment, openness, flexibility, focus, respect, and courage. These values must not only be decided in theory, but also lived in practice in order to successfully implement agile corporate management.
For corporate practice, commitment means making commitments and, above all, keeping them. This type of commitment requires a high degree of intrinsic motivation on the part of the employees for the goals of the team and the company. At the same time, it requires the opportunity to be able to act self-effectively. Here, the focus on the common goals is crucial.
The agile value of openness means that the company and every employee is open to new information and experiences. This is crucial in order to be able to react proactively and successfully to changes in the market. It is important here to have the courage to explore new things and to demonstrate a willingness to work under uncertainty.
Agility and especially the values that this method embodies are not always directly implementable. What is crucial is the attitude, values and principles that the company adopts to enable agile management.
