The leadership culture in Corona times

Corporate culture as a key success factor

Probably the greatest test of corporate culture to date was triggered by the Corona pandemic: the loss of personal contacts, unforeseen problems and the increasingly growing economic pressure. The pandemic requires a stronger corporate culture than ever before.

How is a corporate culture defined? Also known as organizational culture, it expresses all the values and norms as well as behavior and action strategies of a company or organization. The culture of a company thus influences its day-to-day actions, the way it communicates and cooperates with each other as well as with partners - and thus also significantly influences the company's desired success.

As a result of the pandemic, the previous rules and structures of most corporate cultures could no longer be used as before. Bans on contact, virtual communication and other problems are prompting companies to take action. Nevertheless, the stress test shows the strength of the corporate culture at many companies. Existing values such as trust and honesty between the manager and his or her employees, strategic handling of mistakes, and a willingness to change bring clear advantages in this regard: The short-term regulations that come with the pandemic can be integrated and implemented more easily.

The influence of managers is enormous in this respect. As role models for the company, they should take the organizational culture particularly seriously and create a holistic framework. Negative effects brought about by the pandemic should be uncovered and resolved. With the help of self-reflection and willpower, changes in culture can be brought about. In recent months, many companies have resorted to digital events, small goodies for employees and direct one-on-one meetings to continue to maintain and strengthen a positive corporate culture.

Regardless of the changes brought about by the pandemic, the aftermath will also bring about many new situations and unforeseen events. Strong corporate cultures will withstand these changes and contribute to positive development.
